There will be thirteen unlimited hydroplanes racing at Madison this Independence Day Weekend. Here’s what you need to know about the latest addition to the H1 fleet: U-57 – Formulaboats.com Driver: Jimmy Shane – Havre de Grace, MD Jimmy Shane, the young yet accomplished limited class driver, enters the fray as a late addition in Ted Porter’s backup hull. Shane will chauffeur the third boat on the water out of the Precision Performance stable. Shane last appeared on the circuit in 2008 at Tri-Cities and Seattle as a relief driver for the U-7 team in this very sled. Now numbered U-57, the boat is a former USA Racing partners entry by way of Competition Specialties. It has a long and successful history which includes a Gold Cup victory in 2004 for USA Racing Partners when piloted by Nate Brown. HydroDan says: The boat and driver have promise, but as a third string entry, parts and pieces may be hard to come by. A fantasy pass at Madison. OR, you could look at it as Jimmy’s job is to go out and just be consistent…start and finish races and accumulate points without any pressure. So while J. Michael and Jeffy Barnyard are out pushing hard and possibly breaking equipment, the U-57 might just be quietly accumulating points. Just a thought….and that’s why I went out on a limb and made it my first pick. Posted on: Jul 02 2010 01:59 PM UTC |

Whatever the case, points that the 57 get, are points that some other boat doesen’t. Posted on: Jul 02 2010 05:01 PM UTC |
